Basket making courses
Book a course for your group or for a party!! You can never have enough baskets.....and if you can make them yourself they are even better!! All courses are suitable for beginners or those who have some experience. We will be using a variety of coloured willows and every basket will be unique. You will also learn about the different types of willow used in basket making and how to prepare them for use....ready for your next basket. All tools and materials will be provided and everyone will take home their basket. I can run any of these courses for up to 8 people on most days at your convenience. You will need to provide a venue or pay the cost if I have to book somewhere. For tuition and materials the cost is £200 for a full day (6 hours) or £150 for a half day (3 hours). This must be paid at the time of booking. Cancellation policy: If you cancel more than two weeks before the date of the course I will give a full refund. Cancel 4 to 14 days before, I will give a half refund, Cancel 0 to 3 days before no refund |
Christmas decorations made from freshly harvested willow
This course usually takes place in November or December Half day or full day available We harvest willow in the winter when the bark is at its brightest, and it's perfect for colourful Christmas decorations. We will make stars, trees, wreaths and other decorations made from fresh willow and reindeer and angels from other willow. |
Round basket with a woven base
Full day needed
A one day course to learn the basics of a stake and strand basket using a variety of coloured willow. You will learn a number of basic basketry techniques and take home a small basket of your own.
Spiral basket
A full day course to make a novelty spiral basket, using a variety of coloured willow.
Asymmetrical basket
A full day course to make an asymmetrical basket with a wooden handle, using a variety of coloured willow. You will be given a pre-made base to make your basket to ensure that we all got home in good time.
Frame basket or trug with handle
Full day needed
Frame baskets are a traditional way of making a basket.
This is 1 day course to learn the basics and make yourself a fruit bowl, a bread basket or a garden trug, using a variety of coloured willow.
Price includes materials and light refreshments. please bring your own lunch.

On this course we will be making a willow sunflower for hanging or putting on a stick, suitable for indoors or outdoors. It's a fun thing to make, but also gives you an opportunity to practise making a round basket base.

Birdfeeder and wind spiral

These lovely little conical baskets can be used outside for feeding the birds with fat balls, inside to hang up in the kitchen with garlic or lemons, or perhaps in the bathroom with soaps. This basket uses several basketry techniques and is a good introduction to willow weaving.
